Every journey begins with a story.
It started with a lifelong connection to Japan. From childhood visits, I fell in love with the people, culture, social etiquette, and sustainable way of life. My search for a home away from home took me to countless places, but it was during a drive through Yabakei/Yamakuni with my husband and a subsequent trip, together with a Japanese friend from the US that we discovered the hidden gem of Nakatsu.
With all my kokoro, I extend my deepest gratitude to my dear friend. Mayumi sacrificed a part of her holiday trip and travelled all the way from Wakayama to Nakatsu to assist us.

Forest Bathing That Changed My Perspective : Walking Among Giants & Bamboo Whisper
I never knew a forest could heal you until I stepped into Kyushu’s ancient cedar groves. There is something humbling about standing beneath towering, gigantic 1,000-year-old cedar - their thick roots anchoring them like silent guardians of time. The air was rich with the scent of earth and moss, and with every breath, I felt a weight lifting.
As we followed a hidden trail, we were encouraged to slow down, to touch trees that have witnessed centuries, to listen - to the rustling leaves, the distant call of a mountain bird, the rhythmic creak of swaying bamboo, Sunlight filtered through the emerald canopy, casting golden patterns on the forest floor. By the time we reached a secluded shrine, I felt different-lighter, calmer, as if the forest itself had reset something inside me. A true reset for the soul.
This was not just a nature walk. It was a homecoming - to myself, to the earth, to a peace I had not felt in years.“
